How to enter a Ringtone into your Sony Ericsson T200 ...

The T200 is recent addition to the Sony Ericsson range,  and according to recent figures,  the second best selling phone in Sweden last year.

The Sony Ericsson T200 phone we used to test the composer was purchased on the Orange network in England in January 2003.

Although the manual stated there was a composer and gave identical instructions to the Ericsson T65 handset,  the location of the composer in not obvious,  and it does not work in the same way as the T65.  The key sequences are in a different order,  and the composer is not located in the same way.   The correct key sequences are given by version 4.2 or later of the Ringtone Converter.

Adding a Ringtone by sending yourself a text message

To add a ringtone to the T200 by sending yourself a text message,  simply select 'Ericsson' and your phone type in the Ringtone Converter.  then 'eMelody' as the phone type.

The Ringtone Converter will then convert rtttl and midi ringtones into a text string you can send to your phone, either by typing the message in,  or better still,  by sending the message to your phone using your network providers online sms service - most offer some sort of free text message service online.

Adding a Ringtone using the Ericsson Composer

To enter the tones on the T200 handset using the in built composer:

1.  First,  locate your ring tone composer

Press the right arrow button to access the menu, then type '4 1 7' slowly to enter the 'My Melodies' section. Choose a position for your new ringtone from the eight available slots, then press [c] to delete the ringtone stored in that position,  and then [yes] to confirm the delete.  

Then select the position again,  and this time press [yes] to enter the composer.  (If you do not clear the current ringtone first,  pressing [yes] gives you the option of sending the ringtone to another Ericsson handset instead of the composer).

2.  Enter the key press sequence

Once you have located the composer on your phone,  you need to enter the key press sequence given to you by the ring tone converter software. 

Now (in the phones melody composer),  simply type these numbers into your keypad.

Where you see (hold until 'x') simply hold down the previous key until the 'x' appears on your phones display,  in the above example press the 1 key and hold it until your phone displays c.,  then do the same again,  and so on.

The tone should go into your phone and play for you.

3. Save the tone

Finally, press 'yes' to playback and store the tone.

If the tone doesn't sound right,  you have probably missed a key so you may wish to try entering the key sequence again.

That's it - it could not be simpler,  or cheaper to add a new ring tone to your Ericsson T65 phone (as often as you like!)
