Sharp polyphonic handsets
Sharp 'GX' handsets have two options to enter ringtones, either polyphonic or standard.
For standard ringtones entered using the phones composer, close this window now and refer to the instructions in the Ringtone Converter.
Handsets such as the Sharp GX10 and GX10i can also use midi files, iMelody and a format known as SMAF for polyphonic ringtones. They can also accept gif, jpeg, png and bmp files for images.
Generally speaking SMAF files result in louder ringtones, whilst iMelody files take up almost no room on your phone. Midi files are of course available almost anywhere.
Adding a polyphonic ringtone or image to a Sharp handset is a two stage process, first you need to create the ringtone file, then transfer the file to your phone.
Creating a Sharp polyphonic ringtone format file
To obtain a louder ringtone, use the Midi to SMAF converter to convert any midi file into a SMAF (.mmf) file for use with your phone. The Midi to SMAF converter is documented here.
You need to select the 16 Chord SMAF conversion.
If you would like to use one of the sample, non-polyphonic ringtones included with the Ringtone Converter, choose a ringtone and then select the 'File' menu, then 'Save as' and save the file as an iMelody file. This will take up very little room on your phone!
When you have the ringtone file, save it to the 'wap' folder. This can be found in the Ringtone Converter folder on your computer.
Transferring the file to your phone
You can transfer your ringtone and image files to your Sharp phone in a number of ways.
Option 1 - WAP
Probably the easiest way to add ringtones and images to your handset is using WAP.
The Ringtone Converter has a fully functional WAP server built in, and will allow you to download all the supported formats.
For details of how to use the WAP server to download ringtones click here.
Option 2 - iRDA
If you PC has infra red you can transfer the ringtones and images this way. Please refer to your manual for instructions on how to do this.
