How
to enter a Ringtone into your Siemens SL42 cell phone...
The SL42 can accept ringtones by
Infra Red or by using its in built composer. The instructions
for the Siemens SL42 ringtones should also work with SL45
ringtones.
Adding a Ringtone using
Infra Red
Using Infra red to add a SL42 ringtone
is easy, all you need is an infra red port on your pc or mac.
First, make sure your ir
port is turned on on your phone and computer, and then point
your phone towards your computer. The computer should then
tell you your SL42 is within range and you can send files to it.
Now, open the Ringtone
Converter and select a ringtone. Use the 'File' menu and
select 'Save', selecting 'midi' as the file
type. The converter automatically creates a midi file
in the correct format for mobile phones such as your SL42.
Now, just send the file to
your phone, and hey presto, you should have a new ringtone!
Adding a Ringtone using the
phones composer
Using the phones in built
composer is also quite easy as it is a good composer. Simply
follow the instructions below to add a ringtone to your Siemens
handset without any cables, or infra red etc.
1. Locate your ringtone
composer
To enter this tone into your Siemens
SL42 phone, from the [Menu], select [Audio], then select [Comp Melody].
A musical score should be displayed on your phone.
2. Enter the key press
sequence
Once you have located the
composer on your phone, you need to enter the key press
sequence given to you by the ringtone converter software.
Look for the text similar to that in the image below.

Now (in the phones
composer), simply type these numbers into your keypad,
the display will show a musical score and notes will appear on the
score as you press the keys.
3. Save the tone
When you have finished, press the 'Play' button (top right) to play back your tone, or the 'Options' button (top left) to save the tone to your phone, or adjust its playback speed.
If the tone doesn't sound
right, you have probably missed a key so you may wish to try
entering the key sequence again.
That's it - it could not be
simpler, or cheaper to add a new ring tone to your Siemens
phone (as often as you like!)
